Slavery: Theory and Practice

For many centuries the Black sea coast has been at the crossroads of the slave trade routes. By the sea and land from the Caucasus the caravans of slaves moved to the South: to the Ottoman Empire where harems were flooded with girls; to the Persian Empire where purchase of boys for local armed forces was conducted. Thus, the mission of our journal is to acquaint the reader with the nature and practice of slavery and slave trade on the territories of the Black sea coast and the Caucasus. The considering of the circumstances of the capture allows to highlight a number of typical situations and causes associated with this. The trauma has affected the mental health and social functioning of slaves throughout their lives. The studies published in our journal investigate the psychiatric or psychosocial sequelae of the survivors in different types of slavery, including military, sexual, kidnapping and etc. All this questions are relevant to the present day. The journal’s objective is the maximal expansion of body sources on the issues of slavery and slave trade on the territories of the Black sea coast, raising the level of general and special source studies.
