About conference

The First International Conference on Issues in English language Teaching and Literature aims to bring together all interested scholars and practitioners in ELT/ELL and literature to contribute to their profession. They are, hence, cordially invited to the conference by submitting their academic papers to provide a platform for exchanging views to empower English Language Teaching and Literature programs. The event which will be held on 25th April 2018 is hosted by the Department of English Language and Literature of the University of Mazandaran, Babolsar, Iran. The keynote speakers of the conference are Dr. Parvaneh Tavakoli from University of Reading in England and Dr. Amir Ali Nojoumian from Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran.

Keynote Speakers

Parvaneh Tavakoli


Dr. Parvaneh Tavakoli

Dr. Parvaneh Tavakoli is an Associate Professor in TESOL & Applied Linguistics at the University of Reading in England. Parvaneh’s main research interests are in the interface of second language acquisition, second language teaching, and language testing. Drawing on a task-based language teaching (TBLT) approach, she has investigated the role of task and task design in language teaching and their impact on oral second language performance, acquisition, assessment and the cognitive processes associated with second language development. Her research also focuses on the measurement and development of speech fluency in language learning and its relationship with other aspects of linguistic performance. Parvaneh has attracted several prestigious research grants and completed a number of national and international research projects. The findings of her research are published in a number of prestigious and internationally recognized journals.

Amir Ali Nojoumian


Dr. Amir Ali Nojoumian

Dr. Amir Ali Nojoumian is an associate professor of English Literature and Literary Theory at Shahid Beheshti University, Tehran, Iran, teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate programmes of English Literature. He completed his MA and Ph.D. studies in the UK at Leicester University during the 1990s. His doctorate research area is the poststructuralist thought with readings of Jacques Derrida’s writings on literature and theology. He has published a number of books and articles in Persian and English. His recent publication in Persian is entitled “Signs at the Threshold: Essays in Semiotics” published by Nature No in 2016. Dr. Nojoumian’s research interests are interdisciplinary studies, semiotics and narrative analysis of literature and arts, philosophy of literature, modernist and postmodernist literature, the deconstructive reading of literary and artistic works, teaching literature, and comparative criticism. Dr. Nojoumian is the present head of the English Department, Shahid Beheshti University. He is also a member of a research group, Tehran Semiotics Circle.
